Final - Un eidted

Profile: Department of Genetics
By: Fatima Mustafa

Initially Genetics was a branch of Institute of Chemistry in University of Sindh. On the advice of the then Vice Chancellor Mazhar-ul-Haq Siddiqui, institute of Genetics and biotechnology was created in 2004. Department of biotechnology started as a centre in January 2002 and was upgraded into institute in April 2003 and was approved by (HEC) in September 2003. Now both the departments are working under Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Umar Dahot is the founder of the Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering. When department was started only 80 students took admission in BS Genetic.
Research work is the main focus of this institute; research is the reason for the collaboration and linkage of Institute of Biotecnology and Genetic Engineering with highly reputed national and international laboratories and institutes. Newly established Institute is providing facilities in the area of Plant Biotechnology, Industrial Biotechnology, Healthcare and Environment Biotechnology.
14 research projects are completed successfully till today and two more are in progress. All the projects are sponsored by national and international funding agencies.
In 2004 first scientific journal was published and in 2015, and in all 12 issues were published. More than 200 research articles have been published in national and international journals.
Department is trying to equip it library with latest books. As many as 1200 books on the subject are available in seminar library.
A visit to the department revealed that nothing has changed from classrooms to laboratory equipments are same when the department was established. Students are facing many problems due to lack of facilities. Instruments in laboratory are not working properly and chemicals for experiment are not available, they complained. Now the university administration is supplying gas to the department. It is pretty much beneficial for students because all the laboratory instruments work on fire, before this, electrical heaters were used.
More than 100 students take admission in each batch every year in the modern field of genetics and biotechnology. Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering is a field in which invention of new technologies like finger printing, DNA reports and mostly research work related to life and technology take place.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Umar Dahot the first director of department was awarded with the HSC best teacher award in 2007, Ain Shams University Egypt gave him gold medal for his efforts. Now Syed Habib Naqvi is the director. From 2003 to 2015 this institute awarded more than 8 Ph.D degrees and 3 M.Phil degrees. ARTICLE
UNEMPLOYMENT IN PAKISTAN
  BY FATIMA MUSTAFA
2K14 /MC /27

Unemployment is major problem of our country nowadays.  Every person you see around you who is educated and looking for jobs but he didn't find any job.  Reason?  There are many kinds of unemploye person in our country.  The person who has ability to do work but he doesn't want to do job because in our country there is no justice .  The person who  didn't know how to do work but they are on good position like engineers,  doctors, teachers,  government employees etc they only study for degrees or only for earn money .  All this is because of corruption  in our country.

The biggest reason of unemployment in Pakistan is backwards of education  system. In our country more than 3 million people are unemployed  and ratio of unemployment is increasing rapidly due to lack of sources and when unemployment takes place so many crimes are automatically be created in the pakistan. Unemployment rate in pakistan is about  12%.

We are not provided our fundamental rights here and some duties   are lying on us that we do not take efforts  for change for betterment .  Why  our  education is going to backward because the latest machineries and technologies have decreases the demand of unemployment in our country.  Industrial  is the largest sector of our economy and contributes 19% to national income.   This sector should employ a large number of labours but due to backwardness it is employing a small number of people. There is a huge difference between the demand and supply for labour. The absence of such kind of planning to produce doctors, engineers, scientists etc, should be done according to the need of different sectors of the economy. The government is not taking interest they only lookafter urban areas but what about the education of rural areas peoples?  They are not priority they are used by wadaras and jagidars.
The government should give out incentives to join such academic programmes. In Pakistan the education system is defective and there is no educational planning. This system is producing graduates but they either do not want to stay in the country or are not paid properly which results in loss of technical staff. In addition, lack of technical and vocational institutions also adds to the growing misery.

If we go in our past we can see how unemployment rate was increased in Musharafs administration it was upto 8.3 %.  During the Zardari Administration, the unemployment rate rose by only 1% 2008 to  2013. Then in the Nawaz Sharef administration the rate increase by twice than it was in the early. Unemployment Rate in Pakistan remained unchanged  2014 thas was about  6 percent. Unemployment Rate in Pakistan is  averaged 5.45 percent from 1985 until 2014. Millions of people in Pakistan are poverty stricken and these people are overburdened with expenditures and their savings are very low.

It is indeed great delight  an immense pleasure for me to express my views on the point of unemployment in our country pakistan.  I go through my experience that the main reason of unemployment is uneducated system which is created by lack  of interest by ruling parties, Moreover  our system is totally failed to provide  facilities to end the unemployment in our society.  I do hereby clear that if we go through the advanced countries they use  to consume 50% of its budget. To develop  the education system but very sorry to say in our country only fix amount for education not in %. The only country can reduce the unemployment whose education system is strong.

Attractions of Hyderabad

Feature by: Fatima Mustafa

Love of homeland is a natural thing. If we love our country we should  also love our city. All the cities of Pakistan are beautiful and have their own identity. Likewise Hyderabad is the city of Sindh Province  , it has its own identity and history behind the name. Before the creation of Pakistan it was called as "Paris of India". Mian Ghulam Shah Kalhoro founded Pakistan in 1768 . Its old name was Neroon Kot. Later Kalhoro family changed the name  as "Hyderabad" on the name of Hazrat Ali (R.A). Hyderabad city is built on three Hillocks over each other. The city is multi Ethnic and has mix of languages like Sindhi, Urdu speaking Muhajir , Pashtun , Punjabi, Balochi etc.
Muhajir live mostly in Latifabad and mostly  Sindhi lives in Qasimabad.

Hyderabad is important commercially because of its industrial products like textile, cement, sugar etc.
Handicrafts is also famous in Hyderabad city . Hyderabad is also famous for the production of glass bangles which export all our the country , which are cheap in price. Hyderabad is famous for agriculture including Rice, Millets, Jute etc.
